INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – It is with great sadness that the Offices of the Grand Chapter announces the passing of Past Grand Officer, Frater Brian Barrett (Kappa-Chi, Concordia University).
Frater Brian was a dedicated volunteer who served as an Alumni Association President prior to his time on the Grand Council. He is the most decorated Canadian Member of TKE in history. He is the recipient of the Order of the North, Order of the Silver Maple Leaf, a Top Teke Individual Frater and the only Grand Officer to be from a Canadian Chapter.
Frater Barrett’s career took him around the world with the Canadian Government. He took great joy in meeting Tekes on his travels. In 1988, he met President Reagan at the G7 Summit in Toronto. They connected as Fraters. The following day, the President and Mrs. Reagan gave him a pair of presidential cuff links and a silver Jefferson cup from the White House.
Frater Barrett influenced generations of volunteers and TKE staff. He was our example of how to act with grace, humility and consistency. Brian served as the Chief Installation Officer for the Iota-Beta chapter at Susquehanna University. His kindness and commitment to service had a profound impact on chapter founder Pat McElroy. Brian’s example led Pat to serve many years as a Grand Province Advisor and eventually on the Grand Council.
Chief Executive Officer Donald E. Aldrich shared, “Frater Brian Barrett was a trailblazer in serving TKE as a Grand Officer. His positive energy and selfless dedication to the mission of our Fraternity inspired countless Tekes, while representing an entire nation. The impact he made will be felt for years to come.”
