Frater Sets Sights on Congress

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Three words emblazon the Kernea for Congress website - Integrity, Service, & Excellence. Frater Rick Kernea (Sigma-Omega, Univ. of Tenn - Chattanooga) has his sights on a congressional seat and wants to ask for support from Tekes both near and far. He believes his call to build a better world begins with the public service.

Who is Frater Rick?

In 2000, shortly after graduating college, Rick enlisted in the US Air Force and was sent to Basic Officer Training. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in April of 2001 and earned his pilot wings in 2002 by graduating at the top of his class. Rick was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2005 and served in many important duties throughout his military service – from working on various “special projects” to creating an Anti-Terrorism program from scratch that was to become a standard that others were modeled after. He has personally flown protective Combat Air Patrols over many major US cities, and has also protected the President, Space Shuttle, United Nations General Assembly and the aerial sovereignty of the United States of America. As part of Rick’s Air Force training, he completed several demanding courses, including SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape). When asked, Rick recalls his most potent memory of his military career when, while manning a Combat Air Patrol in his F-15, he watched the sun rise over the Potomac river on the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks – where he was the first line of defense for our nation’s Capital.

Rick’s leadership potential has been lauded by his superiors and commanders throughout his Air Force career. Additionally, his background in public administration and economics led him to perfectly close out a flight program costing over $12 million – without one cent of taxpayer money wasted. He has been awarded many ribbons and medals throughout his career – including the Military Distinguished Graduate honor.
