A Lesson from Conclave | Raise Money for St. Jude
In 2011, Tau Kappa Epsilon made a $1 million pledge to St. Jude. Tau Kappa Epsilon's commitment towards raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is a vital focus for every chapter across the United States and Canada. At Conclave in Washington D.C. we were reminded of how easy it can be for a fundraiser with a creative idea to raise money and make a difference for St. Jude.
Four professional staff members of TKE made the commitment to gamble their hair to raise money for St. Jude. In less then 4 days, the Tekes in Washington D.C. raised over $2,200. Conclave attendees donated towards the person that they wanted to shave their head (or mustache) the most. The fundraising event was concluded as all four participants said they would shave for St. Jude if every spectator of the event would donate money to the cause. The motivated group of Tekes, did not hesitate as they stormed the fundraising jars and donated their cash to a cause bigger than them all.
So what does this event teach us about the 2013-2014 school year?
First, every chapter in TKE Nation has a KRA goal focused on St. Jude. The first step to achieving this goal and our commitment to the hospital is to put on an event. Get your chapter motivated for the cause, and have everyone fundraise for your St. Jude goal. Pick a date, and start planning your event today.
Second, be creative and utilize the resources that St. Jude provides for TKE. Creating a fundraising page has never been easier, and making a competition out of it can be very effective. Shave your head for St. Jude, create an event appropriate to your campus, or compete with another TKE chapter for bragging rights.

Lastly, St. Jude was founded by Frater Danny Thomas. His vision is carried out by the members of TKE nation today. We fundraise because we care; we believe in charity because it is our foundation as Tekes. We raise money for St. Jude because Frater Thomas said it best, "No child should die in the dawn of life." Be proud of our affiliation with St. Jude and get your campus involved with this tremendous cause.
Being Better Men for a Better World is our mission as Fraters in the bond; perhaps your next St. Jude event will be a prime example of that reality.
