Frater Gary A. Reed Enters the Chapter Eternal

With a heavy heart, Tau Kappa Epsilon is saddened to share Frater Gary A. Reed (Iota-Phi, Defiance) entered the Chapter Eternal on Monday, October 14, 2019. He passed after a heart attack and is survived by his partner, Erick Gutierrez and son Jessie.

Frater Reed was initiated into Tau Kappa Epsilon in 1972. He served Tau Kappa Epsilon as the TKE Foundation President/Chief Executive Officer for more than a decade prior to leaving the Professional Staff in September 2016.

TKE Foundation Chairman, Frater Elmer Smith (Mu-Sigma, Morehead State) shared, "TKE Nation mourns the loss of Frater Gary A. Reed. He meant a lot to both me personally and to the TKE Foundation. The TKE Foundation's success over the past decade can be attributed directly to Frater Gary and his leadership. Over the years, he and I became close friends. He passionately cared for Tau Kappa Epsilon and helping others in need. You will be missed, Frater."

Frater Louie Correa, a past Foundation employee, shared on Facebook a few memories of Frater Gary, who gave him his first job in development and also officiated his wedding. "I am devastated to know I will never be able to repay him for everything he gave me. I will always remember how calm he was, how he would pause for an eternity to consider what you've said and then respond, how I didn't want to disappoint him, and how long he talked about patience at our wedding."

Prior to joining the TKE Foundation Staff, Gary was an ordained minister of the United Church of Christ and worked in fundraising for a non-profit organization in Bensenville, Illinois.

Frater Gary (President's Circle) was a Life Loyal Teke and received the Grand Prytanis Award in 2007 for his contributions to the TKE Foundation.
