Grand Council Promotions, Mehta Appointed, GC Applications Open

INDIANAPOLIS – Tau Kappa Epsilon announces the Grand Council of Tau Kappa Epsilon has unanimously voted to approved promotions to members of the Grand Council. These promotions follow the retirement of Past Grand Prytanis James Hickey, Ph.D. and the ascension of Ted W. Bereswill as the Venerable Grand Prytanis.

In accordance with Article IV Sec. 4 of The Black Book, the Grand Council shall fill the vacancy by a majority vote. Earlier this week, the Grand Council unanimously voted to approve these promotions within the Grand Council.

  • Grand Grammateus Ryan Vescio (Rho-Omega, South Carolina) to Grand Epiprytanis
  • Grand Hegemon Mike McEvilly (Beta-Eta, Missouri-Rolla/Missouri S&T) to Grand Grammateus
  • Grand Council At-Large Erich Ploog (Epsilon-Omicron, Houston) to Grand Hegemon

Prior to Grand Prytanis James Hickey, Ph.D.’s retirement from the Grand Council, Frater Jonathan Fitzgerald (Grand Chapter) resigned from the Grand Council.

In addition to these three Fraters moving up the ranks of Grand Council, the Grand Council has appointed Frater Shimul “Shimmy” Mehta (Theta-Zeta, Rutgers Newark) to serve in one of the two open Grand Council At-Large positions.

Frater Mehta is currently the Chief Financial Officer for Island Health Care, a Federally Qualified Health Center in Massachusetts. He was a recipient of the TKE Alumnus of the Year in 2011 and the Founder of Angelwish.org, a children’s charity which enables anyone to grant the wish of a child living with a chronic illness in over 130 hospitals around the world in less than 30 seconds.

The Venerable Grand Prytanis, Frater Ted W. Bereswill, shared, “The Grand Council and I are thrilled with the addition of Frater Mehta to the Grand Council. His wealth of experience will help add unique perspective to the men selected to serve our great Fraternity. I am appreciative of Fraters Vescio, McEvilly and Ploog’s willingness to step up and contribute their abilities to the Fraternity in expanded roles.”

Beginning today, the Venerable Grand Prytanis invites applications from any eligible TKE alumni to fulfill the vacant At-Large position on the Grand Council. The application period will extend until October 22, 2021 at 11:59pm pacific.

All applicants must complete a conflict of interest questionnaire, acknowledgement statements and submit application credentials. If selected, the applicant will be required to submit to a background check.
