Veterans & Remembrance Day Nov. 11, 2017
INDIANAPOLIS – Today, the Offices of the Grand Chapter recognize the men and women who have served in the United States of America and Canadian Armed Forces. We take a moment to reflect on the courage and dedication of those who have chosen to defend their country.
Thank you for your service.
"The observance of Veterans Day on November 11 preserves the historical significance of the date and helps focus attention on the important purpose of Veterans Day: A celebration to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good." – U.S. Department of Affairs.
In addition to the American celebration of Veterans Day, Canada and the Commonwealth of Nations are celebrating Remembrance Day as a way to remember the members of their armed forces who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
For those who may be unaware, Tau Kappa Epsilon established the Order of the Shield as a way to acknowledge and recognize Fraters who engaged in defending peace and freedom by serving their country's armed forces through active, reserve or National Guard components. Acceptance to the Order of the Shield is not limited to those who served in the United States and Canadian forces.
In addition to recognizing those who have served their country, the Order promotes the establishment and awarding of a scholarship to a deserving college member who is currently serving, or has already met his military obligation, in the armed forces of his country.
