Frater Benny Johnson Enters Chapter Eternal
Former TEF Director Frater Benny L. Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed into the Chapter Eternal May 25, 2016 at the age of 76. Most of us will remember Frater Benny as a tall guy with a wonderful smile and bow tie!
Frater Benny’s TKE Legacy is far greater, though. As a director of the TKE Educational Foundation, he was one of the writers of our current mission statement which he proudly helped revise in 2008. Benny was also a top-50 giver to the Foundation, having given 28 consecutive years. His service as a TEF Director was devoted and faithful as he attended every meeting while serving on our board from 2004 to 2010.
Frater Benny is survived by his wife, Cheryl, sons Matthew and James Brett Todd, daughters Anna Walker and Catherine Jolly, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Benny was preceded in death by his first wife Shirley and his second wife Nancy.
Outside his family and TKE, Benny was born December 12, 1939 in Shenandoah, Iowa. He attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri where he was initiated into the Delta Nu Chapter in 1957. He graduated with a BA in secondary education majoring in Mathematics.
In 1962, Frater Benny joined the United States Air Force where he served from 1962 – 1992. He earned a masters degree from N. Colorado University in 1979 and rose to the rank of Colonel in the Air Force where he was an aeronautical/electronics engineer.
TEF President, Frater Gary Reed says, “I will always remember Benny as a wonderfully positive and friendly guy who loved his Fraternity. Anything you would ever ask him to do, he immediately agreed and worked hard to complete.”
Thank you, Frater Benny for your excellent service to God, Country and Fraternity.
Words of comfort may be sent to the tkeogc@tke.org and we will share with his wife.
