TAU KAPPA EPSILON HIRES NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Tau Kappa Epsilon International Fraternity is pleased to announce its 12th Chief Executive Officer, Shawn A. Babine. Shawn is a seasoned bank executive, with experience as a senior vice president with TD Bank and most recently in retail sales management with Key Bank. He is a former Region 1 volunteer serving as a Grand Province Advisor in the Michael J. Morin Province. In 2009, he was elected to his first of two terms on the Grand Council serving as Grand Hegemon and in 2011 as Grand Pylortes. Shawn was awarded the 2009 International Volunteer of the Year Award, is a recipient of The Order of the North, and is a founding member and Past President of the Northeast Ironmen Alumni Association. In 2010, the fraternity called upon Shawn's executive leadership to serve as Interim Chief Executive Officer during a time of need while giving the fraternity and Grand Council time to complete an international executive search for a permanent CEO.
"On behalf of the Grand Council, it is our honor to welcome Shawn as Tau Kappa Epsilon's Chief Executive Officer," said Grand Prytanis/ Board President Ed Moy. "Shawn carries the honor of becoming TKE's 12th CEO in the organization's 113 year history. Shawn's fraternal stewardship and executive leadership, coupled with his ability to build strong relationships with all of our stakeholders, is a perfect match for leading our Offices of the Grand Chapter staff. His appreciation of our values-based membership experience is grounded in his own TKE story that is only strengthened by an unwavering commitment to collegiate and volunteer development. Shawn is an accomplished and well respected Frater who exemplifies TKE's legacy and continues to contribute greatly to its future. Shawn carries with him daily the solemn responsibility for advancing Tau Kappa Epsilon, has a strategic eye toward what must be accomplished, and has a firm grasp on how we can get there."
In Maine, Shawn has served as an elected member of his community's Board of Education, Vice Chair of the Town Council, and in 2004 was his party's nominee as a candidate to the Maine House of Representatives. He compliments his professional and political experience with philanthropic service to other nonprofit organizations including the Volunteers of America of Northern New England, Camp Ketcha - Camp Fire for Boys and Girls, the University of Southern Maine Alumni Association, National League of Cities Councils on Youth, Education & Family and on the NLC Community & Economic Development Advisory Board. Shawn is a Past Commander for the Sons of American Legion, a 25 year volunteer with the American Legion Boys State Program, and Past President of the Portland Lions Club.
"I'm both honored and excited to serve as Chief Executive Officer," said Frater Shawn Babine. "I look forward to working with TKE leadership and our members to take TKE to historic success. The professional and personal successes that I have experienced in life are afforded to me by my own Fraternity experience. The values and ideals instilled during my TKE journey reminds me of my obligation to give back to TKE and our Educational Foundation. In the spirit of Frater and President Ronald Reagan's words, I believe you don't become CEO of TKE, instead you are given temporary custody of an institution that I hope has made me into a better man - this institution belongs to our members. Having temporary custody of this office will be a sacred trust and honor beyond words or measure. I have great expectations and will work to accomplish these over my tenure."
Shawn is originally from Scarborough, Maine and is a 1985 initiate of Lambda-Delta chapter at the University of Southern Maine where he earned a degree in economics. His education includes a master's of business administration and human resource management from Southern New Hampshire University, and a master's certificate in applied project management from Villanova University.
Shawn assumes his role and full responsibilities as the permanent Chief Executive Officer effective immediately.
