Staff of TKE - Cory Martin

Cory Martin
Senior Operations Specialist

INDIANAPOLIS - In the summer of 2010, a photographer named Brandon began taking photos of thousands of New Yorkers. His goal was to put a face to the image that people had of the different New York boroughs and its inhabitants. As if overnight, Humans of New York became a worldwide sensation.

We looked at the Humans of New York project and realized we faced a similar challenge. Many individuals outside of the Fraternity's immediate points of contact do not truly know who is answering the phone, posting on social media or handling various tasks at the organizational level. For that reason, we are excited to launch a new edition of "Staff of TKE." Every two weeks we will highlight a new individual on TKE's Professional Staff. Each post will include two photos and a candid conversation. Enjoy!

Contact Cory for questions regarding officer development, organizational goal planning, improvement of campus relations and all things Indiana.

What exactly is IUPUI?
Ha, IUPUI stands for Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and is a sprawling downtown campus that brings the best of Indiana University and Purdue University to some 30,000 students. I graduated from IUPUI in 2013 and am finishing my Masters in Public Affairs from there next year.

Jordan or LeBron?
I am an avid Indiana sports fan and love my Pacers but I do have to say, growing up watching MJ was a treat. I am a fan of fundamental team basketball so my choice is most definitely His Airness, Michael Jordan. His skill set matched with his ability to transform those around him makes him an easy choice for me.

Is Jordan the reason why you love Chicago so much?
Well, I am a very proud Hoosier but I like the fact that Chicago is only a few hours away. I fell in love with the city while going to Cubs games as a kid. I just enjoy how you get lost in the magnitude of the cityscape and the wide array of popular attractions.

We recently announced the 2015-16 Professional Staff Service Model, how are you handling the transition?
I love it! Being the Senior Operations Specialist for Performance gives me a chance to broaden my skill set and work with high performing TKE chapters throughout Canada and the Central United States. The idea behind the position is to advance the operations of good groups and help them transform into great groups. This will allow TKE to become more visual on our flagship campuses and ultimately build sustainable success for years to come.

Where do you see TKE in the future?
The organization is taking phenomenal strides in the right direction. The consistent leadership CEO Donald E. Aldrich provides is unparalleled. The moves we have made as a team are setting us up for a future that truly embodies the values of our great organization. Now is the time to take charge. We have the right men who can take the lead and get us where we need to be.

Explain your interest with the practice of leadership.
Leadership is the general essence of what we are trying to develop in our members, regardless of age. From our collegiate members roaming around college campuses to our esteemed alumni roaming the halls of their workplace, leadership is absolutely critical. Understanding leadership and constantly studying its impact on individuals is a lifelong passion of mine. I thoroughly enjoy conversations around styles and practices of leadership and its development. Never hesitate to strike up a conversation with me about ideas and concepts surrounding how you may be able to further your leadership abilities!

When and where is the best place to strike up that conversation?
Conclave '15 in New Orleans, of course! What better place? Conclave is going to be an unbelievable opportunity to actively participate in educational workshops and social atmospheres where leadership development is on display! The deadline for registering for Conclave is actually coming up on July 1st so if you are reading this and not registered, you should probably get on that.

The next edition of "Staff of TKE" will appear Friday, July 10.
